Who we are

The confair services Messe- und Kongressbetreuungsges. mbH & Co. KG was founded in March 1998; it is registered under the number HRA 91747 in the Companies Registry at the Hamburg district court. The general partner is the confair services GmbH (HRB 67388) with our managing director Joachim Bluhm.

Our managing director Joachim Bluhm was previously - from 1975 on - active partner in the firm contro Veranstaltungsdienste GmbH where he has been responsible for the division Fair and Congress Service Coverage since 1995. In early 1998 this division was transferred to the confair services GmbH & Co. KG, founded specially for the purpose; since then, the firm contro Veranstaltungsdienste GmbH has again been limiting its activities - as it did previously (1975 - 1995) - to the divisions concerts and sporting events. This split is a response to the different structures and requirements of the divisions mentioned - particularly in terms of organisation and staff.

What we do

We provide German and English-language events of all kinds, particularly congresses, fairs, conferences, AGMs, receptions and similar "events", with the services required on the spot.

Our main focus in on hostess services, particularly counter services (registering and informing of event participants), hall services (attending to the chairman and speakers in the hall), visitor information and looking after visitors to fair and exhibition stands.

In addition, we conduct the receipt, the return and the presentation of slides and other media, the issue and return of receivers for the simultaneous translation, the inspection and cloakroom services as well as a night-watch service for halls and exhibition stands. We also compile conference materials (packing of conference bags). Finally, we also provide technical support services, e.g. for the assembly and dismantling of exhibition stands, counters etc.

But we are of course flexible, we know that every event entails its own special tasks, such as the manning of a conference office and escorts for sightseeing tours etc. It goes without saying that we can help our clients with such assignments on request.

How we work

Fairs and congresses are events of limited duration; no service provider in the business can afford to maintain the necessary personnel on a permanent basis. Thus as a rule the staff in this business are part-time and are only deployed according to requirements and availability. This results in specific problems, both for us and our competitors. We believe we can honestly claim that we - confair services - have solved these problems by striving for the best possible performance with the greatest possible reliability.

·       Selection and training of personnel

When selecting our staff we look for a background that guarantees appropriate behaviour when dealing with a demanding public. Thus our staff are mainly students and women with an academic training, who for example occasionally want to work outside the home again after starting a family.

The specialist qualifications and competence of our staff is our foremost concern. Thus we are not a "model agency", even though we can definitely claim to have thoroughly "presentable" colleagues in our ranks.

Foreign languages are a matter of course for our staff, especially the hostesses. We teach our staff the specific knowledge they need for their job with us by incorporating them carefully into the team and by project-related instructions and trainings.

·       Reliability through legal organisational forms

Our staff operate subject to directions from us or our clients; they are therefore - in the legal sense - employees. Thus we have to comply with the increasingly complicated and cost-intensive tangle of tax and social security regulations and ensure that our clients are not burdened with such issues.

We solve these problems the legal way, despite the extra organisational effort and expense this involves; the path chosen by many of our competitors, illegal sham freelancing, is not a path we wish to take: our staff are therefore not "subcontractors" but - as already mentioned - legal employees; we alone are their employers and thus responsible for complying with the tax and social security regulations. This gives our clients the advantage of maximum protection from unexpected demands from the inland revenue and national insurance institutions.

Where we work

It will come as no surprise that we perform most assignments in Hamburg and its numerous event venues. You could say we are regulars at the city’s Congress Centre "CCH” [www.cch.de]. But we do of course also carry out assignments in other parts of Germany or abroad, provided this makes economic sense in view of the additional travel and accommodation expenses etc. involved.
